Womack woods

The woodland paths at Womack Woods are proper Norfolk - dense, quiet, and genuinely restorative. You're walking through mature trees with the kind of damp earth smell that tells you this place hasn't been over-managed. The reserve is just east of King's Lynn, making it an easy morning out if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Range Farm or Dreamy Hollow.

What you actually get here are miles of walking trails through mixed woodland, the sort of place where you might spot nuthatches or see muntjac deer if you're lucky. There's no visitor centre theatre or cafe nonsense - it's just woodland as it should be. Plan on two to three hours for a proper explore, though you can do a shorter loop if the weather turns.

It works brilliantly for walkers wanting something low-key rather than a destination in itself. Families with older kids will enjoy it; younger ones might lose interest once the novelty of being off the main path wears off. Birdwatchers and anyone serious about woodland flora should absolutely make the trip.

The reserve is free to access, and there's parking at the entrance. Best avoided in peak summer heat when the trails are muggy - spring and autumn are cracking times. If you're based at one of the glamping sites within two miles, it's the sort of place to slip into between breakfast and lunch without faffing about with travel times.
