Docking Playpark

The Docking Playpark is a proper little nature reserve just outside King's Lynn that punches above its weight for a family afternoon out. You get woodland trails winding through decent-sized trees, open grassland where kids can actually run about without trampling protected plants, and enough wildlife-spotting potential to keep nature enthusiasts occupied for a couple of hours.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping sites - Dreamy Hollow or Range Farm are practically on the doorstep, just 2.3 miles away. The reserve itself is small enough that you won't feel pressured to spend your whole day here, which makes it ideal padding between longer walks or visits to the coast. Families with young children will appreciate the space to let them loose, and birdwatchers sometimes find interesting visitors depending on the season.

On a decent day the trails are pleasant and manageable - nothing too strenuous - though it can get muddy if there's been rain. Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you're taking your time and actually looking about. Spring and early summer are when it's most lively for wildlife. The reserve appears to be free to access, though facilities are basic.

Truthfully, it's not a destination in itself. But as part of a Norfolk park holiday where you're already in the area, it's a solid half-day activity that gives you a break from driving and lets everyone breathe some proper country air.
