Pockthorpe Village Sign

The village sign at Pockthorpe is one of those Norfolk oddities that stops you mid-drive and makes you actually get out of the car. It's a proper bit of folk art - hand-painted and genuinely strange in the way only rural East Anglia can manage. You won't spend long here, mind you. Five minutes maximum, unless you're the type who photographs every village sign from here to Great Yarmouth.

It works as a quick pit stop if you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - Wild Meadow or Range Farm are both within a few miles - and need to stretch your legs between King's Lynn and wherever else Norfolk's pulling you. The sign itself tells you something about the village's character, which is worth a look if you're into that sort of local heritage. It's the kind of thing that makes sense as part of a broader Norfolk wander rather than a destination in itself.

Free to look at, obviously, and it's right there by the road. No opening hours because it's outdoors. Go whenever you're passing through. If you've got an afternoon in the area and you're staying at Dreamy Hollow or Happy Valley further out, this is worth the short drive to get a feel for how these smaller villages present themselves. Don't expect a gallery experience - it's literally a village sign - but it's the sort of Norfolk character that makes the county interesting if you know where to look.
