Witney Lake and Country Park

The lake itself is genuinely lovely - about 40 acres of water surrounded by proper woodland and meadow. It's a working gravel pit that's been converted into something genuinely useful for the town, and it shows. You can walk the perimeter path without much difficulty, spot waterfowl, and actually feel like you've stepped away from Witney proper, even though you're barely on the edge of town.

This is the sort of place where walkers and bird-watchers will spend a solid hour or two without feeling rushed. Families with younger children get a decent return from it - the paths are manageable and there's enough water-based interest to keep them engaged. If you're after dramatic scenery or rare species sightings, though, don't get your hopes up. It's straightforward, accessible nature rather than a hidden treasure.

The real value comes when you're basing yourself at one of the nearby caravan parks like Cotswold Edge Caravan & Camping over at Ducklington Farm, just a mile and a half away. It's the sort of spot that rounds out a day nicely - a morning walk here, lunch in Witney, then back to the park for the evening. Grove Farm Glamping Pods, a bit further out at 3.5 miles, works similarly well if you're after something less conventional.

Who should come? Walkers after an easy outing, birdwatchers keen on a local spot, and families wanting something straightforward. Just manage expectations - it's pleasant rather than spectacular.
