Burwell Recreation Ground and Park

The recreation ground at Burwell sits just outside Witney, a proper slice of Oxfordshire countryside that doesn't announce itself loudly. You get grassland, tree cover, and the sort of open space where you can actually breathe without queuing or paying for the privilege.

It's ideal for families with young kids who need to burn off energy between trips to the Cotswolds proper. A straightforward walk around the perimeter takes maybe twenty minutes if you're not rushing, longer if you stop to let the little ones play on the grass or chase whatever's flying about. The trees provide decent shelter when the weather turns, which in Oxfordshire it does, regularly.

Locals use it for dog walking and casual strolls rather than destination visits, and that's honestly the appeal. No entrance fee, no gift shop, no crush of tourists. Free parking too, if you've got a car. It works well as a half-hour detour when you're based at one of the nearby parks - Cotswold Edge Caravan & Camping is barely a mile away, Grove Farm Glamping Pods only a couple of miles further. After a day at Hardwick Parks or Lincoln Farm you can come here to decompress without faffing about.

Worth the walk from Witney town centre if you're looking for green space. Don't expect anything dramatic, but it does exactly what it says on the tin.
