Windy Dod

The walk up Windy Dod is properly rewarding if you're not expecting a Munro-bagging epic. It's a straightforward climb from the Biggar area, the sort of hill that takes an hour or so to bag and leaves you genuinely pleased with yourself at the summit. Nothing technical, nothing terrifying - just solid Scottish Lowlands terrain with views that stretch across farmland and moorland once you're up there.

You get the sense this is a local's hill rather than a tourist tick-box. The paths are well-trodden but won't be rammed with folk queuing for summit selfies. That's rather the point. It's exactly the kind of walk caravaners staying at Mount View over in Biggar (five miles or so away) should be doing - something that gets you outdoors and moving without eating up your whole afternoon.

The main crowd will be walkers who appreciate a decent outing without the faffing about that comes with bigger peaks. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine. The slopes aren't brutal, though the name does hint at what the weather can do up there - take a windproof, genuinely.

There's no visitor infrastructure worth mentioning, no café at the top, no interpretation boards. Bring a map, decent boots, and know what you're doing. It's free access and all-hours - this is proper hill walking territory. Pair it with other Lowland walks in the area for a proper outdoors break.
