Rodger Law

Rodger Law is a proper little hill rather than a mountain, rising just 400-odd metres near Biggar in South Lanarkshire. The walk itself takes about forty minutes up from the nearby carpark, and it's straightforward enough - nothing that'll defeat you mid-hike. The views from the top are the real draw. On a clear day you can see across the Southern Uplands and down into the Clyde Valley, which beats what you'd expect from a hill this modest. There's something satisfying about a summit you can crack out before lunch and still have the afternoon free. Walkers come here expecting something minimal and leave pleasantly surprised. It's not dramatic terrain - more rolling grassland than dramatic crags - so families with older kids handle it fine, though small legs might find the ascent tedious. You won't want to linger for hours once you're up top, but the round trip is excellent value if you're camping at Mount View Caravan Park just down the way. Pair it with a walk around Tinto Hill or Culter Fell for a proper day out in the area. There's no charge and no facilities to speak of, so bring water and reasonable boots. Go on a day when the weather's cooperating - clouds here mean you've essentially climbed to sit in fog. Worth doing if you're in the area, but don't plan a special trip just for this one.
