Windslow Bank

The woodland at Windslow Bank feels properly remote for somewhere in Oxfordshire, even though you're only twenty minutes from Botswicky Copse. Dense beech and oak crowd both sides of the main track, and in autumn the floor turns into this russet carpet that muffles everything. There's a real sense of being away from it all here.

It's a walker's forest rather than a destination with bells and whistles. No facilities, no marked trails, just you and the trees. That's honestly what makes it good - brings out the map-reading side of things, keeps you engaged. Most people spend an hour to ninety minutes wandering the main paths, though you can easily spend longer if you start exploring the quieter edges.

Families with younger kids might find the sheer lack of infrastructure a bit limiting, but older children who enjoy proper outdoor time will get plenty from it. Historians won't find much beyond the woodland itself, but if you're after genuine peace and a chance to properly walk, this delivers.

The proximity to Nordic Glamping at Botswicky and Evelyns Garden Glamping makes it a natural fit for a woodland-heavy holiday. Both sites are within easy striking distance for a morning or afternoon foray. Even Faringdon Grange, five miles further on, keeps you well-positioned for exploring this stretch of countryside. Admission appears free and there are no obvious opening restrictions, though the forest works best in dry weather when the tracks aren't churned up.
