Botley Copse

Walk far enough into Botley Copse and you'll forget you're in Berkshire at all. This woodland sprawls across decent acreage, all towering oaks and thick beech cover, the kind of place where morning light filters through in golden streaks and the ground stays soft underfoot even days after rain.

It's proper walker territory rather than a family picnic spot, though younger kids won't struggle if you stick to the main paths. The copse works best in autumn when the canopy turns amber and rust, or spring when bluebells carpet the forest floor. Summer can feel airless under all that leaf cover. There's something meditative about it - no gift shop, no visitor centre, just trees and the occasional muddy track.

Allow an hour or so for a decent ramble depending on which routes you fancy. The woodland connects reasonably well to the wider footpath network around Botswicky Copse, so it pairs nicely with a longer country walk if you're up for it.

Stay nearby at Nordic Glamping at Botswicky (less than four miles away) or Evelyns Garden Glamping for something more polished, and you've got proper forest escapes within a few minutes' drive. Lorne Hill Farm sits just beyond that if you want to combine woodland with farmland exploring.
