Wellington Wood

Wellington Wood is a proper forest walk just outside Botswicky Copse in Oxfordshire, the sort of place where you can actually lose an hour without realizing it. Tall oaks and beech trees create natural tunnels of shade, and if you time it right in autumn, the leaf fall turns the floor into something genuinely worth photographing. The paths are reasonably well-maintained, though muddy after rain - I'd recommend proper boots rather than trainers.

It's ideal for anyone wanting a straightforward woodland ramble without the crowds you'd get at the big tourist spots. Families with kids aged five and up will manage fine; younger ones might struggle with the uneven ground. History buffs won't find much here in terms of monuments or plaques, but the wood itself has that quiet, lived-in feel that suggests centuries of people walking these same routes.

Allow a good hour minimum if you're taking your time, maybe ninety minutes if you're stopping to look at things. The walk feels properly separated from the world despite being close to civilization. If you're staying at one of the local glamping spots like Nordic Glamping at Botswicky or Faringdon Grange nearby, this makes a solid morning excursion before heading elsewhere. No visitor centre that I could find, and I'd guess it's free to access, but check locally before you go. Winter visits are quieter but the mud situation gets worse - spring and early autumn are your sweet spots.
