Williamson Park Car Park

The car park at Williamson Park isn't why you've driven to Lancaster, but it's where you'll start - and that matters. Once you've found a space, you're at the foot of one of Lancashire's proper green spaces, all 54 acres of it rolling uphill from the town centre.

Williamson Park itself is the real draw. There's the Ashton Memorial - that grand stone tower visible for miles - sitting at the top like Lancaster's crown jewel. The walk up takes about fifteen minutes if you're not dawdling, less if you are. Family groups with younger kids might find the slope a bit much in summer heat, but it's manageable, and the views from the top across Morecambe Bay justify the effort. The park has woodland paths, open grassland, and enough space to lose an afternoon without feeling rushed.

It's free to wander, which is one less thing to budget for. Most people allow two to three hours if they're doing the full circuit, though you can knock that down to ninety minutes if you're just up-and-down to the memorial.

If you're based at Crook O'Lune Holiday Park just down the road - and that's a solid choice at 2.8 miles away - Williamson Park works as either a morning stroll before the weather turns, or an evening wander when the light's golden. Bay View Holiday Park is slightly further out but also within easy reach. The park fills a gap in a Lancaster trip: proper outdoor time without needing to travel far from your caravan.
