Wigg Island

The Dee Estuary stretches out from Wigg Island like something from a birdwatching dream - all mud flats and brackish water and the kind of silence that makes you realise how rare that actually is. History types appreciate that this was shaped by industry and tidal forces over centuries. Casual walkers might find it a bit bleak and samey if they're after drama and views, though some folk find that emptiness exactly what they need.

Frodsham's only a short drive away if you want a proper meal afterwards.
