Whitley Village Hall

The actual draw here is the nature reserve that sits alongside Whitley Village Hall, just a few miles outside Northwich. It's the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss - which is rather the point. You're looking at wetland and woodland habitat that's genuinely worth an hour or two on foot, especially if you're into spotting birds or simply want a walk that feels a bit more purposeful than a circuit of the car park.

The reserve itself is free to access and works brilliantly as a break from the camping routine if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Belmont Hall is closest at just over two miles, while Pickmere and the Lady Heyes sites are all within five or six miles. Bring binoculars if you've got them. The paths are decent enough, though it can get boggy after rain, so proper boots make sense. Families with young children who are keen on nature will get more from this than those hoping for obvious attractions or facilities - there's no visitor centre or café here, just the reserve itself.

Timing-wise, early morning or dusk tends to be when the wildlife is most active, though honestly any time works if you're just after a quiet walk. It's the kind of place that reminds you why you're camping in Cheshire in the first place - proper countryside without the crowds you'd find at the bigger country estates.
