White Hill

The walk up White Hill takes you proper into Argyll's backbone - it's not a monster summit, but the effort-to-reward ratio is genuinely solid. From Helensburgh, you can be at the top in under two hours, looking out across the Clyde and into the Cowal Peninsula beyond. The climb itself is straightforward without being dull, and on a clear day the views absolutely justify the slog.

It's a walker's hill rather than a tourist trap, which means you won't find crowds or facilities. Bring water, decent boots, and check the weather - Argyll weather changes fast. The path is well-trodden but can be boggy in patches. Most people allow two to three hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and photo stops.

Families with kids who can handle a proper walk will get something out of it. History buffs, less so - there's no castle or ancient site at the summit, just landscape. But if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Beach House Pods, Rosneath Castle, or Hunters Quay - it's a cracking half-day activity that breaks up the holiday without needing a car journey. Free to walk, obviously. The real cost is the leg work.
