Weymouth Beach Dog Area

If you've got a dog, Weymouth Beach has a designated area where they can actually have a proper run without you fretting about the summer season restrictions. It's a straightforward setup - a section of beach where four-legged friends are welcome year-round, or at least outside the peak season when most English beaches ban them entirely.

The beach itself stretches wide and sandy, backed by the promenade and all the usual seaside bits - fish and chips shops, amusement arcades, the lot. Your dog gets space to chase balls, paddle in the shallows, and do whatever dogs do when they hit sand. It's not dramatic scenery, but it's functional and honest.

This works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Haven Littlesea or Waterside Chesil Beach are barely two miles away. Families with energetic dogs won't want to spend three hours here; an hour of fetch and a paddle is usually enough before everyone's ready for an ice cream or a sit-down. The real draw is the freedom for your pet when so many beaches turn them away during summer.

Head here outside July and August if you want the least crowded experience. Rodwell, just inland, is close enough for a quick detour. If the weather turns, the promenade's got shelter and cafes, so you're not totally exposed. Bring a towel - sand and dog fur is a combination that requires planning.
