Located just outside Leicester, this bike trail setup draws riders ranging from complete beginners to people who've forgotten what flat ground looks like. The trails wind through Western Park itself, offering a mix of technical sections and flow trails that actually feel fun rather than punishing.

It's undeniably a specialist spot. If your lot are keen mountain bikers or want to learn, you'll get real value here. Younger children might find it either brilliant or boring depending on their confidence level - there's not much for non-riders to do, so it's not a "something for the whole family" kind of stop. Walkers passing through will notice the berms and jumps but won't get much from lingering.

The trails are free to use, which is refreshing, though you'll want decent bikes and helmets - this isn't a gentle ride. Allow two to four hours depending on ability and how many runs you want. Best visited when conditions are dry; wet ground turns everything into a mud bath.

For caravan holidays in the area, Green Acres and The Paddocks both rate well and sit within a 20-minute drive, making them sensible bases if cycling's your thing. Charnwood Acres is closer at under five miles if you don't mind the lower rating. Leicester itself is minutes away for supplies and escape routes on days the weather turns.
