The Western Library sits on the edge of Beverley, a proper Georgian market town that deserves more than a passing glance. It's a local fixture rather than a tourist draw, but that's precisely why it's worth poking your head in if you're staying nearby at Manor Farm Camping.

Inside you'll find the sort of library that still feels like a library - quiet, orderly, with actual books on shelves and librarians who know their stock. There's a decent local studies section if you're interested in East Yorkshire's history, and the building itself has a bit of character. It's not the kind of place you'll spend hours in unless you're genuinely after something specific, but on a wet afternoon it beats sitting in a caravan.

Opening hours are limited - Thursday to Thursday, 1pm to 6pm - so plan around that. Free to use once you've got yourself a card. Kids won't find it thrilling unless they're the bookish sort, but it's a genuine community space without the artifice of somewhere designed purely for visitors.

Pair it with a wander around Beverley itself. The Minster is genuinely excellent, the high street has proper independent shops, and there's decent food about. The library works as a useful stop rather than a destination, especially when the Yorkshire weather turns grim and you need somewhere warm and dry with a cup of tea.
