Westacre Theatre

A crumbling Victorian theatre tucked away near King's Lynn, Westacre is the sort of place that stops you in your tracks. The building itself is the real draw - all peeling paint, ornate ironwork, and windows that haven't seen a cleaner in decades. You can't actually go inside (it's been closed to the public for years), but the exterior tells you everything about Norfolk's theatrical past.

This is pure architecture-spotting territory. History buffs and photographers will find plenty to occupy an hour or so, circling the building, peering through gaps in the boarded-up windows, imagining the orchestras and touring companies that once played here. Kids tend to lose interest quickly unless they're the type who enjoy exploring derelict buildings - and even then, there's not much hands-on activity.

It's free to visit, obviously, since you're just looking at the outside. Best done as part of a wider wander around the King's Lynn area rather than a destination in itself. The town has proper independent shops and decent cafes if you're making a day of it.

If you're staying at Norfolk Woods Resort & Spa or Happy Valley's glamping, Westacre works as a quirky half-hour detour. The real appeal is the melancholy of it all - a reminder of when every market town had its own theatre. Worth the trip if you're already in the area, but don't go out of your way specially.
