West Thurba

Scrambling up through gorse and bracken, you'll find this elevated spot offers sweeping views across the Gower Peninsula - though you'll need to work for them. West Thurba sits high above Swansea's western reaches, providing a proper vantage point over Three Cliffs Bay and the coastline beyond.

The walk up is steep enough to get your heart pumping, but nothing too challenging for anyone with reasonable fitness. Once you reach the top, the panorama stretches from Oxwich Bay to Worm's Head on a clear day. It's particularly lovely at sunset when the light catches the limestone cliffs.

Families with older children who don't mind a bit of a trek will appreciate this one, though toddlers might struggle with the terrain. Dog walkers seem to love it - plenty of space to let them roam. The area is free to access, naturally, and you'll want to allow an hour or so for the round trip.

Staying at one of the nearby parks like Gower Holiday Village or Hillend Camping Park puts you within easy striking distance. It's worth combining with a day exploring Three Cliffs Bay below - the contrast between beach level and this elevated perspective really shows off the Gower's dramatic topography.
