West Oxford Dog Fields

Just west of Oxford's city centre, these open fields have been a proper lifeline for dog owners for years. It's exactly what it says on the tin - a stretch of grassland where dogs can run off-lead without the stress of traffic or getting tangled in leads. Nothing fancy, no agility equipment or themed play areas, just space.

The fields work brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Oxford Riverside Glamping or Valley Farm Campsite and your dog needs a decent stretch. Twenty minutes should do it, though owners with young pups or anxious dogs often stay longer just to watch them settle. It's free to use, which keeps the whole thing wonderfully unpretentious. The ground can get boggy in winter, so avoid after heavy rain if you're fussed about muddy paws in the car.

Dog owners will find it invaluable; families without dogs have no reason to come. The fields themselves aren't scenic in any postcard sense - you won't be taking photos to prove you've been there.
