Three championship courses wrapped around Virginia Water - that's what you're looking at when you pull up to Wentworth Club near Chertsey. This is serious golf territory, the sort of place where the European Tour used to show up and grown men got very quiet indeed.

You'll need to be a member or come as a guest of one, which immediately tells you this isn't the sort of venue you rock up to on a whim. The West Course is the famous one - elegant, tree-lined, genuinely testing. The East and South courses are equally well-maintained but less headline-grabbing. The whole setup feels proper manicured, which is exactly what you'd expect from somewhere this established.

If you're a golfer and you've got connections, brilliant. If not, you're looking at watching from the outside. The grounds are undeniably lovely to walk around, and the lake views carry real weight, but you won't get the full experience without a scorecard in hand.

For anyone staying at Chertsey Caravan Park or Laleham Camping Club nearby, Wentworth sits about 2.5 to 4 miles away - close enough to make enquiries if you've got a playing partner with a membership. Non-golfers might find it a bit pointless though. It's worth a drive past to see the architecture and grounds, but genuinely, the appeal here is the golf itself, not the scenery.
