Welsh Wildlife Centre

The Welsh Wildlife Centre sits just outside Cardigan on the estuary, and it's genuinely worth half a day if you're serious about birds and wildlife. You get proper wetland habitats here - reed beds, pools, riverside walks - which attract everything from curlews to otters if you're lucky enough. The viewing towers and hides let you watch without disturbing anything, and the walking trails loop through different zones so you can pick your own pace.

It works best for patient types: birdwatchers, keen photographers, families with older kids who won't get restless. If you've got toddlers expecting entertainment rather than observation, they'll probably lose interest after an hour. The real magic happens early morning when the light's good and the birds are active. You could easily spend two or three hours here in the right season.

Being barely a mile from Cardigan Camping and Touring Caravan Site makes it a natural stop on a Ceredigion coast holiday. Pair it with walks along the River Teifi - the centre sits right on it - and you've got a solid day. Cardigan Bay Holiday Park and Mwnt Camping are also close enough for easy access, and the estuary walk itself is worth doing regardless of what you spot.

Check opening hours and admission before you go - details are thin on the ground online - but this is proper Cardigan Bay wildlife territory. Less showy than a big visitor attraction, but that's the point.
