Gallt Clynhercyn

Dense woodland carpets the hillsides here, offering proper Welsh forest walking without the crowds you'll find at more famous spots. Gallt Clynhercyn sits quietly in the Pembrokeshire countryside, close enough to Cardigan that you can easily pop over for supplies but far enough out to feel properly remote.

Walking enthusiasts will love the network of paths threading through mixed woodland - mainly oak and birch with patches of conifer plantation. It's not spectacular in the waterfall-and-panorama sense, but there's something deeply satisfying about the way light filters through the canopy and the occasional glimpse of distant farmland between the trees.

Families with young children might find it a bit samey after an hour or so - there's no playground or obvious focal point beyond the trees themselves. But older kids who enjoy a proper ramble will appreciate the sense of exploration as paths wind uphill and down through the forest.

The woodland feels most atmospheric on misty mornings or late afternoons when the light slants low. Given its proximity to several holiday parks around Cardigan - Happy Campers Family Park and Cardigan Camping are both just over three miles away - it makes for an excellent leg-stretcher if you're staying in the area. Allow a couple of hours for a decent walk, though you could easily spend longer if you're keen on wildlife spotting or just fancy a peaceful afternoon among the trees.
