The walk up Wedder Law rewards you with views that stretch across the Lowlands in ways most visitors to this part of South Lanarkshire never expect. At 1,280 feet, it's not a proper mountain - more a determined hill that takes about an hour to climb from Biggar - but the effort feels worth it once you're up there.

The summit's got an old stone shelter, weather-beaten but functional, and on a clear day you can pick out the Pentland Hills towards Edinburgh and the Southern Uplands rolling away to the south. The walk itself threads through moorland that's peaceful without being boring - just enough variation in the terrain to keep you engaged.

Families with kids used to hillwalking will manage it fine. The path is rough in places and bog is always a possibility after rain, so proper boots matter more than technical ability. Give yourself two hours if you're not pushing hard, and check the weather before you go - the mist can roll in quickly and kill the views that are honestly the whole point of being up here.

It's a solid addition to a caravan park holiday at Mount View, which sits only five miles away. You're in proper Lowland walking country here, away from the busier tourist routes. Worth the detour if you've got a free morning and don't need crowds to feel like you've had an outing.
