Weavers Pond

The water at Weavers Pond sits still and dark, fringed with reeds that catch the light properly golden on an afternoon visit. It's a modest freshwater lake just outside Dorking, the sort of place locals walk past without thinking twice but visitors tend to discover by accident.

There's nothing flashy about it. No facilities, no ticket booth, no crowds. What you get instead is a quiet spot where you can genuinely hear yourself think - water lapping, birds calling, the occasional ripple breaking the surface. The surrounding woodland provides decent shelter, and the path loops round the edge in under an hour for a gentle circular walk.

Walkers will find this worthwhile as a leg-stretcher between larger Surrey attractions, though it's not dramatic enough to anchor an entire day around. Birdwatchers might linger longer; the reed beds attract wildfowl, and it's peaceful enough to actually spot them. Families with young kids will get restless after thirty minutes unless they're the type to hunt for frogs and throw sticks.

If you're based at nearby Slinfold Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, it's an easy detour - close enough for a morning constitutional without eating into time for the bigger draws across Sussex. Go mid-week if you want real solitude. Autumn works best when the light's softer and the reeds are turning bronze.
