Weaver Hills

The hills roll up rather dramatically once you leave Uttoxeter behind, and Weaver Hills is where things get properly interesting. It's a modest but genuine peak that commands views across north Staffordshire - nothing Alpine, but on a clear day you can see for miles in that rollicking Midlands way. The walk up takes maybe thirty minutes from the nearest car park, depending on your fitness and which approach you take. It's the sort of place that rewards walkers without being a slog, so families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find it tedious.

What makes it worth the effort is the sense of genuine elevation once you reach the top - that feeling of actually being somewhere high, rather than just trudging through countryside at the same level. The views aren't postcard-perfect in the Lakeland sense, but they're real and properly earned. On weekends it draws locals who know what they're doing, which says something.

You'll want to allow two to three hours for the full outing including the walk. Given that several campsites cluster within a few miles - Common End Farm and Ecopod Holidays are particularly close - this works as a solid half-day activity if you're based in the area. It's the kind of thing to tackle on a decent morning before heading back for lunch. Not a destination in itself, but a genuinely useful spot if you're already exploring this corner of Derbyshire.
