Warren Point

The walk up to Warren Point takes you through proper South Devon countryside - all rolling fields and the occasional gate you have to figure out how to open. Once you're at the top, the effort pays off. You're looking out over the Salcombe estuary, all silver water and wooded banks, with enough distance to see right down to the sea beyond. On a clear day it's genuinely worth stopping for. The view stretches across to Portlemouth on the far side, and you can pick out the little beaches tucked into the shoreline if you've got decent eyesight.

It's a straightforward walk from Kingsbridge - no scrambling, no sudden drops - which means families with older kids will manage fine. Younger ones might find the walk back a bit tedious, but that's manageable. You'll want a good hour to get there, sit about, and come back without rushing. There's nothing commercial up there - no cafe, no visitor centre, just the view and some benches if you're lucky enough to find them in decent condition.

If you're based at one of the local camping spots - South Devon Camping at Lower Terawhiti is only 2.5 miles away - this is the sort of thing you do on a morning before the weather turns. It's the kind of place that rewards getting up early. Not dramatic like some Devon viewpoints, but genuinely peaceful, and the sort of spot where you actually see people just... standing quietly and looking at things.
