Warren Corner

Head up from Petersfield and you'll find yourself scrambling through beech woodland towards one of Hampshire's proper viewpoints. Warren Corner isn't dramatic - there's no summit cairn or café at the top - but it does give you a clean sight line across the South Downs that justifies the legwork.

It's essentially a high point on the chalk downland, accessible by footpath from several directions. The walk takes forty minutes to an hour depending on which route you fancy, and the path itself is well-trodden but occasionally muddy underfoot. Once you're up there, the views sweep north and west across rolling countryside - nothing Alpine about it, but on a clear day it's good enough reason to leave the car behind.

Walkers will get the most from this. Families with younger kids might find the approach a bit relentless without much payoff at the summit itself. If you're staying at Adhurst Yurts or Feather Down Manor Farm - both within five miles - it's a manageable morning outing before lunch. Woodlands Camping, slightly further out, could work too if you want to stretch the legs during a longer park stay.

Best visited outside school holidays when the paths are quieter. The beech trees offer decent shade in summer, though that also means you'll miss some of the views. Late autumn when the canopy thins is probably the sweet spot. Free to access, obviously. Allow two hours total if you're not a regular walker.
