Warboys Weir

The Great Ouse River narrows here into a proper weir pool, and it's become something of a draw for anglers and riverside walkers heading out from St. Ives. You won't find facilities or tea shops - this is the real thing, just water, willows, and the sound of the sluice. Warboys Weir itself is functional rather than dramatic, but the reach around it tells a different story. Bank-fishing is the main activity, and regulars come for pike and perch. The walk down from the village is manageable, taking about twenty minutes on foot through mixed terrain.

Historically this part of the Ouse has been shaped by water management for centuries - the weir controls flow downstream, and you can see that engineering in action.
