Wall to Wall

Wall to Wall is a contemporary art gallery just outside Nottingham that punches well above its weight. The space itself is the draw - stripped-back brick, good natural light, and the kind of raw industrial feel that lets the work breathe rather than fighting for attention against fancy surroundings.

You'll find rotating exhibitions of painting, sculpture, and installation work, mostly from emerging and mid-career artists with a strong emphasis on British makers. The programming feels genuinely thoughtful rather than playing it safe with blockbuster names. I've seen galleries ten times the size curate with half the conviction.

It's worth a visit if you care about contemporary art and want to see what's actually happening in the East Midlands rather than just London repeats. Casual visitors might find themselves underwhelmed - this isn't a place to potter around for an afternoon. Plan for an hour, maybe ninety minutes depending on what's showing.

Perfectly timed with a caravan or glamping stay at one of the nearby parks. Shelford Nurseries is closest at just over three miles, or if you want something with a bit more luxury, Birdholme and Peacock Lake are both excellent and only marginally further out. You could easily combine Wall to Wall with exploring Nottingham's other galleries and the surrounding countryside - Gunthorpe Camping puts you near the Trent Valley walking trails too.
