Wakefield Cathedral

The nave feels properly grand without being intimidating, and there's genuine medieval stonework mixed in with Victorian restoration work that somehow doesn't feel jarring. The windows are excellent, particularly if you catch them when light's pouring through. History buffs will appreciate the monuments and tombs scattered throughout - this place has been standing since the 15th century, though it only became a cathedral in 1994.

It's free to enter, which is generous. Allow a solid hour if you're going to read the plaques and take in the details, though you could dash through in twenty minutes if you're short on time. The choir stalls are worth lingering over.

For a caravan holiday in the area, Broadlands Farm is your closest option at just 2.4 miles away - proper convenient if you want to tick off Wakefield's main landmark without a lengthy drive. Nostell Priory Holiday Park sits further out but gives you the bonus of being near the actual Nostell Priory estate if you want to explore beyond the cathedral.

It's not going to blow your mind unless you're really into ecclesiastical architecture, but it's genuinely worth an hour of your time. Proper worth doing.
