Wainman's Pinnacle

A sandstone tower perched on the moors above Keighley that was built in 1871 by a local worsted manufacturer with more money than taste. It's essentially a folly - a Victorian-era statement of wealth disguised as a monument. The climb rewards you with proper Pennine views across the valleys, though the structure itself is fairly modest and you'll be done exploring in about twenty minutes.

Worth a day trip if you're already hiking the moorland around here, but don't plan your entire park holiday around it. The real draw is the walk itself - the approach from the surrounding hills is far more memorable than the tower. Families with older kids (ten and up) who enjoy a steady uphill tramp will get something from it; younger children might find the actual destination underwhelming once they've made the effort.

The tower stands freely accessible on public moorland, which means no admission charge and no official opening hours - you can visit any time. Allow an hour return from the nearest car park for the round walk at a leisurely pace, longer if you're mixing it with wider moorland exploration. Early morning visits are best to avoid the school groups that occasionally show up.
