View Point

The View Point near Tadworth sits on high ground that commands proper views across the Surrey Hills - on a clear day you can see for miles across the rolling landscape. It's the sort of spot where you understand why people bothered to fortify the area back in the day, and why locals still make the journey up here.

Historically minded visitors will get the most from a visit, though the appeal is broad. There's no faffing about with exhibitions or gift shops - you're here for the vista and the sense of standing somewhere that mattered strategically. It works well as part of a larger walk through the Surrey Hills, and fits naturally into a park holiday based around Norbury Park or Betchworth Fort Park, both within five miles.

The walk up isn't gruelling but it's not flat either. Allow 20 minutes or so depending on your route. What to expect: good sight lines, fresh air, and the kind of quiet that only happens when you've actually made an effort to get somewhere. It's not a destination that'll occupy an afternoon on its own, but as a viewpoint break during a walking holiday, it's well worth the leg work.
