View & Bench

There's a bench somewhere up in the hills above Dolgellau with a view worth the scramble. That's essentially it - a simple wooden seat pointing out across the Gwynedd valleys, the kind of spot locals know about and walkers stumble upon by accident. The payoff is proper: on a clear day you're looking at layers of Welsh hillside rolling away, and if the light's right, you can see why people bother with this part of the world at all.

Getting there means a decent walk from the town, so bring proper boots and check the weather forecast first. This isn't a quick photo stop - you're committing to an hour at least, more if you're carrying kids or moving slowly. The bench itself is just a bench, nothing fancy, which somehow makes it better than some of the over-engineered viewpoints you find elsewhere.

It works brilliantly if you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Llwyn yr Helm or Graig Wen are both solid choices - and you want a proper hill walk without disappearing for the whole day. Families with teenagers will manage it fine. Young children and those after an easy stroll should probably head to Torrent Walk Campsite's own paths instead.

Free, obviously. Nobody's charging for a bench and a view. Go early morning or late afternoon when the light's actually doing something interesting. Midday sun washes everything out.
