Venetian Marina

The Venetian Marina sits just outside Winsford, a working boating hub that's genuinely worth a wander if you're staying at any of the nearby parks - New Farm, Oakwood, or Holmston Hall are all within a couple of miles. It's a proper inland marina, the sort of place where you'll see narrowboats, day boats, and people actually using the water rather than just posing for photos.

What you get here is a chance to walk the towpath, watch boats coming and going, and grab a coffee while sitting by the water. The atmosphere is calm and working-class, not glammed up. If you're travelling with kids who like watching boats or have energy to burn, the towpath walks are decent for that. History buffs will appreciate that this is part of the Cheshire salt mining heritage - the area's riddled with brine and waterways that made the region prosperous centuries ago.

I'd allow an hour or so, maybe more if you fancy a proper walk along the canal system. It's free to wander about, though obviously any café or boat hire would cost you. The best time is weekends when there's more boat traffic, though that also means more people. Summer's lovely, but honestly it's pleasant enough in autumn too when it's quieter.

If you're basing yourself at Little Ranch Glamping or Thornley Leisure, the marina makes a nice break from the park itself - close enough for a morning stroll without needing to drive far. Don't expect Venice, obviously. Expect Cheshire.
