United Church of Bute

The United Church of Bute sits on the main street in Dunoon, a solid Victorian sandstone building that you'd walk past without thinking twice if you weren't looking for it. Step inside and it's all dark wood pews, high ceilings, and the kind of hushed atmosphere that makes you immediately drop your voice. The stained glass windows are decent rather than spectacular - functional religious art from the late 1800s rather than anything that'll knock your socks off.

It's genuinely worth a quick look if you're already in Dunoon (which you likely are if you're exploring this part of Argyll), but don't go out of your way for it. You'll spend maybe twenty minutes wandering about, reading the plaques, checking out the organ. It's the sort of place that works best if you're curious about local history or just after a moment's peace away from the seafront tourist bustle. Families with restless kids won't get much from it - there's nowhere to run about and not a great deal to hold younger attention.
