The walk up Kilbride near Dunoon is a straightforward hill climb that rewards you with proper views across the Firth of Clyde. It's not technical - more of a sustained trudge than a scramble - but it clears the head and the vista alone justifies the effort. On a decent day you can see right across to the Ayrshire coast.

Allow a couple of hours for the round trip if you're not rushing. The path is reasonably well-trodden and families with older kids will manage it fine, though it's not a gentle stroll. You'll want decent footwear and the weather can turn quickly, so check conditions before heading out. There's no visitor facility at the top - just a cairn and the view.

Where it really works is as part of a broader walk around the area. Dunoon itself has a bit of charm, and if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Hunters Quay Holiday Village and Beach House Pods are both rated highly - you've got access to decent walking without needing to drive far. The Secret Glen Campsite, a bit further out, sits in proper countryside. Kilbride fits naturally into that itinerary: a morning hike followed by a wander around town or a seaside potter.

It's not a must-do if you're only in the area for a day, but if you're based locally it's a solid half-day outing. Don't expect drama or solitude, especially on weekends, but you will get fresh air and that satisfying feeling of having earned the view.
