Uffington Gorse

Uffington Gorse is a small woodland pocket rather than a sprawling forest - you're looking at maybe an hour's wander if you're not rushed, less if you just want to see what's blooming and move on.

It's the kind of place that appeals to keen walkers and botany types more than families after a full day out. The undergrowth can be thick, so good boots help. Locals seem to favour it as a quiet spot between the Faringdon downland walks and the bigger attractions further afield - the kind of place you'd add on rather than plan a trip around.

Access is straightforward enough from Faringdon itself, though there's nothing formal about it - no visitor centre, no car park with signs. Getting there is half the point if you're the sort who likes finding things by map rather than following arrows.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Evelyns Garden or Faringdon Grange, it's worth a morning ramble before heading elsewhere. The Real Campsite and Nordic Glamping at Botswicky are also within reasonable distance if you're making a broader loop of the area. Don't expect facilities or facilities crowds - this is about stepping away from the polished, well-trodden paths for an hour.
