Mutts Meadow

A small meadow just outside Faringdon that's become something of a local talking point, Mutts Meadow is exactly what its name suggests - a grassy field where dogs can properly run about without a lead. It's not a manicured park or a formal recreation ground. There's no café, no facilities, no fuss. Just open space where your dog can be a dog.

For families with energetic mutts, it's genuinely useful. Twenty minutes here and you've worn them out enough for a peaceful afternoon at the campsite. The walk from Faringdon itself is straightforward enough if you fancy stretching your own legs too. In spring and early summer the meadow can be lovely - long grass, wildflowers, the works.

The Real Campsite is barely three miles away, which makes this a handy spot for campers with dogs who need a proper off-lead run. Cotswold Edge Caravan & Camping over at Ducklington Farm and Grove Farm Glamping are also within easy reach if you're basing yourself in the area. It's not a destination in itself - you won't drive an hour to visit - but if you're staying locally with a dog, you'd be daft not to pop by. Free, as far as anyone can tell, and worth having in your back pocket when the pooch gets restless.
