Twin Chimneys

Two soaring brick stacks rise from the Cornish moorland like monuments to a grittier past. These remnants of the East Pool tin mine mark one of Cornwall's most atmospheric industrial heritage sites, standing sentinel over the landscape just outside Redruth.

Walking around these towering chimneys gives you a proper sense of the scale and ambition of Cornwall's mining heyday. The taller stack reaches nearly 200 feet - impressive enough to make you crane your neck back for a good look. They're all that's left of what was once one of Cornwall's most productive tin mines, operational from the 1840s until the early 1900s.

History buffs will find plenty to contemplate here, though there's not masses of interpretation on site. The chimneys themselves tell the story well enough - testament to the engineering prowess that made Cornwall the world's tin mining capital. Kids might enjoy scrambling around the surrounding moorland, but they'll likely lose interest after twenty minutes or so.

The site works well as a quick stop if you're exploring the mining heritage around Redruth and Camborne. It's easily accessible and you can park nearby without fuss. From Lanyon Holiday Park or the other camping spots in the area, it's worth the short drive for those keen on Cornwall's industrial past, though don't expect to spend more than half an hour here unless you're a proper mining enthusiast.
