Tullibardine

The ruins of a medieval chapel sit quietly on the edge of Auchterarder, easy to miss if you're not looking for them. Tullibardine is what remains of a 15th-century collegiate church - not much survives, but what does tells the story of a place that once mattered enough to the local gentry to warrant serious investment. The stone walls give you a proper sense of scale and craftsmanship, even if the roof's long gone. You can wander around freely and get a feel for how these ecclesiastical buildings were laid out, though bring a decent sense of imagination because there's not much interpretation on site.

History types will get the most from this. It's the sort of place where archaeology enthusiasts linger, reading the stones like a book. Families with impatient younger kids might find twenty minutes is the lot, though if you've got walkers who enjoy combining countryside rambles with historical stops, it's excellent. The location works well as part of a broader Perthshire circuit - you're close enough to Auchterarder for supplies and well-positioned between several caravan parks including Alexander House (3.4 miles away) and Broadslap Farm if you're basing yourself in the area.

It's free to visit and open year-round, though there's no visitor centre or facilities. Go on a clear day when the light hits the stonework properly. Skip it if you need crowds and commentary, but if you appreciate quiet ruins and genuine medieval atmosphere without the tourist machinery, Tullibardine delivers.
