Tudor Remains

Crumbling brick and flint walls poking through Sussex scrub - that's Tudor Remains for you. Near Pulborough, this is what's left of a Tudor-era structure, and honestly, it's one of those places where your imagination does most of the heavy lifting. You get fragments of masonry, the ghostly outline of what once stood here, and that particular silence you find at archaeological sites where history has mostly eroded away.

It's worth a detour if you're already walking the South Downs or exploring the Arun Valley, but don't expect a fully intact manor house. What you get instead is a sense of what rural life looked like five centuries ago - and the satisfaction of standing somewhere genuinely old. History enthusiasts and walkers will find it worthwhile; younger kids might lose interest after twenty minutes, unless they're the sort who enjoy scrambling over old walls and inventing stories about who lived here.

The site appears to be freely accessible, though facilities are minimal. Allow an hour if you're combining it with a walk around the area. The South Downs Way runs not far off, so this works well as a quick stop during a longer expedition.
