Trinity

You'll find Trinity standing along the Irwell Sculpture Trail just outside Bury, a striking contemporary gallery that sits within a proper working landscape. It's not your typical white-cube affair - this is art embedded in nature, which sounds pretentious until you actually walk it and realise it genuinely works.

The sculpture trail itself stretches for miles, and Trinity acts as both starting point and focal piece. What makes it worth stopping for is the way it's designed to catch you off guard - you're expecting a park walk and instead you get confronted with actual art, properly considered installations that make you think rather than just snap a photo for Instagram.

Historically minded visitors and contemporary art enthusiasts will get the most from this. Families with older kids who can handle a decent walk will find it engaging, though younger ones might flag after the novelty of spotting sculptures wears off - it's not a sit-down, spend-three-hours kind of place.

If you're staying at Burrs Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just down the road, this is an ideal morning or afternoon outing. Free admission (last time I checked, anyway - verify before you go), and you can walk as much or as little as the legs allow. Spring or autumn are best - summer gets muggy, winter's just wet.

The Irwell Valley has transformed itself into something unexpected. Trinity is where that transformation becomes visible.
