TRINITY Church, Southover

Walk down the narrow lane past Southover in Lewes and you'll find Trinity Church tucked away like it's been waiting centuries for someone to actually stop and look properly. It's a small, unassuming place - flint walls, modest windows, the kind of building that doesn't announce itself. But that's rather the point.

The church dates back to medieval times, though it's been rebuilt and tweaked over the years like most parish churches have. Inside it's calm and quietly dignified - nothing flashy, just solid craftsmanship and the kind of peace that comes from a space that's been used for worship for longer than most of us have been alive. The setting is what gets you though. Being so close to Lewes yet feeling genuinely removed from the town bustle makes it feel like proper countryside.

This works best for history walkers who appreciate the smaller stories - the sort who'd rather spend time reading brass plaques than ticking off major attractions. Not a destination in itself unless you're genuinely interested in church architecture or local history. Fifteen minutes to half an hour is realistic.

If you're based at Three Ponds Holiday Park, The Secret Campsite, or Blackberry Wood, it makes for a nice morning walk as part of exploring Lewes and the surrounding area. Combine it with a wander through Southover Grange gardens nearby or the wider Lewes circuit. Open to visitors, though opening hours aren't consistently published so calling ahead makes sense if you want to go inside.
