Triangle Wood

A modest woodland patch between Chippenham and Devizes, Triangle Wood offers the kind of straightforward forest walk that doesn't demand much planning but delivers quiet relief from the Wiltshire flatlands. It's proper woodland - mixed deciduous, decent canopy cover, the usual suspects of beech and oak. The paths are manageable rather than spectacular, and you're looking at maybe forty minutes to an hour to work through it properly without rushing.

This works best for families after a gentle leg-stretch rather than serious hikers after a challenge. Kids get to do actual exploring without the parental anxiety of losing them in something vast. It's the sort of place you'd visit as a side trip when staying at one of the nearby caravan sites - Roe Deer Fields or Plough Lane are within walking distance if you're after a convenient half-morning activity. Not worth a dedicated journey from beyond the region, but absolutely worth knowing about if you're based locally for a week.

There's nothing here in the way of facilities or interpretation, so go in expecting trees and solitude rather than visitor infrastructure. Best visited on a dry day - underfoot can get boggy after rain. It's free to access and open whenever, which means no queuing or ticket stress. The real charm is simply having somewhere green and contained to wander without it taking up your whole day. Perfectly serviceable woodland, nothing more, nothing less.
