Trewennack Methodist Church

A small Methodist chapel tucked away in the Cornish countryside between Redruth and the mining villages of the south coast - Trewennack is one of those places you'll miss entirely unless you know to look for it. The building itself is modest, honest, and genuinely atmospheric in a way that feels completely authentic rather than preserved-for-tourists.

What draws people here is the quiet. There's no cafe, no gift shop, no interpretation boards. Just a working chapel with real history written into its walls, reflecting the strong Methodist tradition that took hold in Cornwall's mining communities. The interior is simple and dignified - exactly what you'd expect from a nonconformist church built to serve ordinary people.

This isn't a destination that'll keep you occupied for hours. Twenty minutes of wandering and looking at the architecture is probably enough. But if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - The Secret Garden or Little Menherion are both excellent - and you want a proper walk through proper countryside with a touch of cultural substance, it's worth the detour from Redruth.

Come on a weekday morning if you can. The light's better, and you're less likely to disturb anyone using the space. Pair it with a walk through the mining landscape around Lanyon Holiday Park's area - the whole region rewards slow exploration. Admission appears to be free, though obviously respect the fact this is an active place of worship.
