Trevescan Cliff

The walk out to Trevescan Cliff near Penzance rewards you with proper Atlantic views - the kind where you can feel the wind pushing back and the horizon seems to stretch forever. It's a short coastal path rather than a destination in itself, and that's rather the point. You get granite cliffs, sometimes a bit of spray if the swell's up, and on clear days you're looking straight out to sea with nothing between you and America.

This is walker territory, really. Families with young kids might find the half-hour there and back a bit dull if they're expecting a visitor centre or ice cream stand, but teenagers who don't need constant entertainment will enjoy it fine. The path itself is straightforward enough - coastal routes in this part of Cornwall tend to be well-maintained. Allow an hour if you're stopping to sit and take in the view, which you should.

It's free, obviously - it's a cliff. No gates, no ticketing. Go whenever suits you, though spring and autumn tend to be less windy and clearer than winter. Summer gets busier with the holiday crowd.

If you're staying at Lands End Camping & Glamping less than a mile away, Trevescan works perfectly as a morning walk before breakfast or an evening stroll. It's the sort of thing you do between proper days out - nearby you've got Mousehole, the South West Coast Path proper, and actual attractions if the weather turns. Roselands Caravan Camping Park is a bit further out, but still within easy reach if you fancy a clifftop walk without faffing about.
