Walking into Tregeyb Wood near Llandeilo feels like stepping properly away from things. The forest is dense and atmospheric - towering trees create a cathedral-like canopy that blocks out most of the sky, and the ground underfoot is soft with decades of fallen leaves and moss. Footpaths wind through the wood, ranging from straightforward strolls to more challenging terrain that gets genuinely steep in places. This is the sort of place where you'll actually hear birdsong instead of traffic.

It's excellent for walkers who want real woodland without needing to navigate confusing trail systems. Kids will enjoy it too if they're the type who like splashing through streams and turning over logs - but it's not a destination park with facilities, so manage expectations accordingly. Allow a couple of hours for a decent exploration; you could easily do it in one if you're just after a quick walk.

The wood sits perfectly within reach of the excellent camping and glamping options dotting the area - Cosmos Camping, Head For The Hills Glamping, and Erwain Escapes are all within six miles. If you're staying at one of those and want a morning or evening walk without driving anywhere, Tregeyb fills the gap nicely. The access appears to be free and unrestricted, which is always a bonus. Visit when the ground's had a few days without rain if you can - it gets boggy, and Wellington boots are the sensible choice year-round.
