Traeth Dolwen

Empty stretches of sand and shingle greet you at this quiet Ceredigion beach, roughly five miles north of Cardigan. Traeth Dolwen lacks the dramatic cliffs of nearby Mwnt, but that's precisely its appeal - a proper working beach where local anglers cast their lines and dog walkers have space to breathe. The shoreline curves gently, backed by low dunes and farmland rather than tourist facilities. Don't expect cafés or car parks here; it's accessed via a rough track that keeps the crowds away. Families with young children will find the shallow waters safe for paddling at low tide, though the beach can disappear entirely when the sea's up. Serious walkers can continue along the coast path in either direction, but most visitors are content to spend an hour or two before heading elsewhere. The lack of amenities means bringing everything you need, including drinking water. Best visited during settled weather when the approach track isn't a muddy mess.
