Torr Head

The drive out to Torr Head feels like you're heading off the edge of the map. This northernmost point of County Antrim juts out into the North Channel, and on a clear day you're staring straight across at the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland - close enough that you can make out the lighthouse. The walk down to the headland itself takes maybe twenty minutes through rough grass and coastal scrub, nothing technical but the wind can be properly fierce up here.

What you get for your effort is one of those views that makes you understand why people settle in these corners of the world. The raw geology is on full display: dark basalt cliffs dropping away, the sea a different colour on either side of the headland where currents meet. On grey days it's moody and atmospheric. When the weather's decent, you'll see why the Scottish coast feels within touching distance.

This isn't a place to linger for hours unless you're really into geology or coastal photography. An hour is plenty for most people, though serious walkers could easily extend it into a longer coastal ramble. Free to visit, no facilities whatsoever - bring water and don't expect shelter. Ballycastle is the nearest town, about fifteen minutes away, so it works as a morning sortie if you're based nearby. If you're staying at Watertop Farm, this makes a good half-day addition to a broader Causeway Coast loop. Worth the drive for the views alone, but go on a calm day if you can.
